Shahzada Dawood, 48, was a British-Pakistani businessman, investor, and philanthropist who died along with his 19-year-old son Suleman and three others in a submersible that went missing while exploring the Titanic wreckage. He was the vice chairman of Engro Corporation and a director of Dawood Hercules Corporation, two of the largest business conglomerates in Pakistan.

Shahzada Dawood was born in Rawalpindi, Pakistan, to Hussain Dawood, a prominent industrialist and philanthropist. He was the grandson of Ahmed Dawood, who founded the family business empire in 1968. He studied law at Buckingham University in Britain and later received a master’s degree in global textile marketing from Philadelphia University in the US.

Shahzada Dawood joined the family business and became the vice chairman of Engro Corporation, a diversified company involved in agriculture, energy, telecommunications, and other sectors. He also served as a director of Dawood Hercules Corporation, a holding company with investments in fertilizers, foods and energy. He was known for his vision and leadership in finding growth opportunities through mergers and acquisitions.

Shahzada Dawood was also an adventurer and explorer who had a passion for science and technology. He was a board member of the SETI Institute, a non-profit organization dedicated to the search for extraterrestrial intelligence. He was also a trustee of Prince’s Trust International, a charitable organization founded by King Charles III to support young people around the world.

Suleman and Alina were two of Shahzada Dawood’s children from her marriage to Christine Dawood.He shared his love for exploration and discovery with his son Suleman, who was a university student and an avid space enthusiast. The father and son embarked on the Titanic expedition as a Father’s Day gift, according to their family.

The submersible, operated by OceanGate Expeditions, was reported overdue on June 18th, 2023, about 435 miles south of St. John’s, Newfoundland, where the Titanic sank in 1912. The U.S. Coast Guard said that debris in the search area was consistent with a “catastrophic implosion” of the vessel.

Shahzada Dawood’s family issued a statement saying they were “devastated” by the loss of their loved ones.Shahzada Dawood is survived by his wife Christine, his daughter Alina, his parents Hussain and Kulsum Dawood, and his siblings.
