Johnny Depp Vs Amber Heard: Who is Right?

The whole world is watching the Johnny Depp and Amber Heard court trial with huge interest and is wondering who is right in this highly publicized case. Hashtags associated with the trial have numerous times trended across Twitter, with people discussing and watching the celebrity case of the year, its messiness, its scandal, the celebrity movie stars at its center, and the question of who to believe and how much?

This is a confusing, murky trial. Technically, it’s a defamation trial, with Depp suing Heard over an Op-Ed she wrote in 2018, at its center, which is one big fight, Heard says that Depp physically abused her, and Depp says that Heard abused him. So, what’s the truth?

Interestingly, in the post-MeToo world, it looks as though most of the voices on the internet have overwhelmingly sided with Depp. Evidence suggests that there was physical violence on both sides of this marriage, it’s not quite clear that the evidence supports Depp, or he has any chance of winning the case.

What he does have is a stronger public persona. Although his recent work has been a string of critical and commercial failures, he has starred in numerous critically and commercially successful films to earn himself a fair amount of public goodwill.

As his film career declined in the early 2010s, his personal and financial troubles began. He even sued his old business managers and lawyers claiming they had mismanaged his finances in 2017.

Amber Heard, on the other hand, was just beginning her film career when she first met Johnny Depp on the sets of The Rum Diary in 2009. She is about 20 years younger than Johnny Depp, Amber Heard first starred in the comedy film The Pineapple Express in 2008. When The Rum Diary was released in 2011, it was a sign of things to come for her, as she entered a new phase in her career: playing the romantic interest of Hollywood A-listers.

All of this backstory to say that when these two people met, Johnny Depp was a known quantity to the whole world. Amber Heard was just starting her career and was relatively new to the public. Also, their whole relationship and marriage coincided with Depp’s long and very public downward spiral.

By 2012, Depp and Heard had begun dating, in 2014 they got engaged, and by 2015, the couple was officially married. Then, in 2016, Heard filed for divorce. She submitted a restraining order application four days later. From there, the whole narrative would develop.

Then, in 2018, Amber Heard wrote an opinion piece for the Washington Post with the title “I Speak Out Against Sexual Violence- and Face Our Culture’s Wrath.” That needs to alter. Even though she never specifically mentions Johnny Depp, she describes herself as “a public figure representing domestic abuse.”

Depp’s lawyers have argued, and the judge has agreed, that she is clearly stating that Depp abused her throughout their year-long marriage.

Abuse has been from both sides there has been no doubt about it. There were several photos shared of Amber Heard with bruises on her face, on the other hand, Johnny Depp shared the court, audio recordings, in which it could be heard that Amber Heard is berating Johnny Depp and that no one would believe Depp if he ever disclosed to the public that he was a victim of domestic abuse because he was a man.

Despite all of this, however, the public opinion is strongly towards Johnny Depp and is against Amber Heard with many claiming that she married Depp for his money. Only the court of the state would decide who’s telling the truth and what would be the public outcry of the court’s decision would also be interesting.
